The Chats admit they got lucky, but as Home & Hosed’s Declan Byrne finds out, there’s plenty more reasons their music keeps connecting.
It’s an age-old tale. You make a dodgy, funny film clip for your new song and get a few clicks from your friends. Then one night you go to bed and when you wake, it’s gone around the world thousands of times over.
“We were just freaking out going, what the hell, what do we do now?!” remembers Josh Price from The Chats.
“‘Smoko’ had maybe 1000 views just from our mates. Then I woke up one morning and it’s had 100,000 and I messaged Eamon and was like dude are you seeing this?!… I went to work and checked it after work and it’s up to like 500,000 and then I had calls from the news”.
One low budget film clip and a bit of good fortune kickstarted a wild ride for the three Sunny Coast boys who are now playing shows around world and getting props from some of the biggest rock stars on the planet.
